First, tap the Profile Panel on the main menu. From here you can change your name and portrait.

Either tap the dice button to generate a random name, or tap on the text box to type a name.

Tap on the portrait image to see a selection of available avatars. Tap the Save button to keep your changes. New avatars unlock as you level up.
